No. 11 Women's Squash Gets First Ever Ivy League Win In Upset At No. 9 Brown
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Since the programs inaugural season in 2010, the Columbia women’s squash program has continued to make impressive strides and achievements. On Sunday, Jan. 12, the women's squash team added another monumental achievement, as they capped a competitive weekend of play with its first Ivy League win in program history over No. 9 Brown. The Lions came away with a strong 6-3 victory on the road at Brodsky Memorial Squash Pavilion for its first ever victory over a top-10 opponent.
Leah Barnet pulled out a tough win at the No. 5 position over Brown’s Katherine Elliot-Moskawa. In a back and forth match, Barnett took the win in five games at 6-11, 13-11, 11-6, 6-11, 11-6.
No. 11 Columbia bounced back after facing an impressive top-five ranked Yale team in New Haven, Conn on Saturday, Jan. 11. The Bulldogs came into the contest unbeaten with four straight shutout wins. The Lions put up a solid fight but No. 5 Yale would add another 9-0 win on the season.
The Lions move to 2-2 overall on the season and 1-2 in conference play. Up next, Columbia will compete in the Pioneer Valley Invitational on Friday, Jan. 17 in Amherst, Mass.
