George Washington Edges Columbia In Kurtz Cup Finals

PRINCETON, N.J. - With the Kurtz Cup (B Division) crown on the line, the Columbia women's squash team faced a familiar foe in George Washington on Sunday, Feb. 23 at the CSA Team Nationals. Although the Lions beat the Colonials 7-2 in the season opener, George Washington battled to edge Columbia 5-4 in the finals this morning.

Despite the loss, Catherine Jenkins posted a 3-1 win at the No. 3 position and both Leah Barnet (No.5) and Kate Calihan (No. 8) won it staight games. Maya Patel grabbed a victory at No. 6 at 11-1, 11-6, 10-12, 11-4. Monica Stone put up a strogn fight at No. 9 for the Lions taking the match to five games, but the Colonials came out on top 10-12, 11-8, 7-11, 11-9, 1-5.

The Lions cap the season at 8-7 for its second winning season in program history and a No. 10 national ranking. A few athletes will continue the season at the CSA Individual National Championships next weekend.
