NEW YORK – Columbia Athletics has announced that volleyball’s Anja Malesevic and cross country’s Ryan Thomas have been named October Student-Athletes of the Month.

Thomas claimed the Individual Ivy League Heptagonal Championship on October 27 at Van Cortlandt Park with a time of 24:57. Thomas, a native of Charlottesville, Virginia, became the first Columbia male to earn a first-place finish since 2003. The senior also was the first Lions’ finisher at the competitive Wisconsin Invite on October 13.

Malesevic has been on a tear for the red-hot volleyball team, registering 145 kills and 27 blocks in seven matches. She is the two-time reigning Ivy League Player of the Week and has recorded 20 or more kills in four of her last five contests. Additionally, she reached double-figures in kills and posted four or more blocks in every match in October. Maleseivic, who hails from Belgrade, Serbia, recorded 27 kills in back-to-back contests, which were the most in a match since the 2009 season.
