NEW YORK - Brittany Shannon has been named to the Mid-Atlantic All-Region second team, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced.  This is the first time Shannon has earned All-Region honors.  Additionally, Shannon became the first player in program history to be selected for the IWLCA/Under Armour North-South Senior All-Star Game.

"Being named All-Region just shows the type of player that Brittany is:  one of the best," said Kerri Whitaker.  "She performs, truly performs, and is one of those attackers that coaches and defenders know that no matter how they defend her or gameplan for her, Brittany will find a way to produce.  She has such a strong will out on the field, and you can tell by the way she plays and the look in her eye that she will not be denied.  To get the kind of recognition at this level that Brittany has achieved, that is the kind of attacker you have to be.  She proved that once again this year."

Having graduated on May 18, Shannon finished her lacrosse playing career with a standout final season. The Garden City, N.Y. native was named second team All-Ivy League this year after being an honorable mention selection in 2008 and 2009.

Serving as the backbone for the Lions' offensive unit, she finished with 51 points this season with 45 goals and six assists.  Her 45 goals tied the single-season record set by Holly Glynn '09CC, while her 51 points ranks third overall. Last season, Shannon had a career-high 52 points which ranks second all-time in a single season.  For her career, her 153 points ranks third and 130 goals ranks second in program history.

Last week, Shannon became the first player in program history to be selected for the 2010 IWLCA/Under Armour North-South Senior All-Star Game.  The game, which features the nation's top seniors, will be played at the United Sports Training Center on Saturday, June 12 at 12pm.
