PRINCETON, N.J. – Sophomore Liam McGill claimed the first Ivy League Baseball Player of the Week honor of the season after leading Columbia in hitting, RBI and runs in its season-opening series at UNLV. Penn’s Mitchell Holcomb was named Pitcher of the Week, while Harvard’s Buddy Heyward earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

McGill went 7-for-13 (.538) with an OPS of 1.394, three RBI and three runs scored. The Wakefield, Rhode Island, native drilled his first home run of the year on Saturday, the first game of a doubleheader, and reached base in all four contests.

This is the first Player of the Week selection for McGill, who was named Rookie of the Year once last season and was a second team All-Ivy League honoree and Collegiate Freshman All-American.

The Lions are back in action this weekend, March 2-4, for a four-game series against USF in Tampa.
