NEW YORK, N.Y.—First-year Jeremy Perna became Columbia’s first-ever Ivy League Rookie of the Year recipient and senior Mert Selamet earned his third All-Ivy League honor as the conference released its 2017 men’s golf awards on Tuesday. The awards were voted upon by the league’s eight head coaches.

Perna also was named to the All-Ivy League Second Team after placing 10th at this past weekend’s Ivy League Championship. In his first year as a collegiate golfer, the Sarasota, Fla. native ranked third on the squad with a 74.79 stroke average and placed among top-25 individuals in four tournaments. He emerged as a key player during the spring half of the season as he led the team in stroke average (73.55), top-25 finishes (three), top-10 finishes (two) and one top-5 finish. His breakout performance came at the Grand Canyon University Invitational, March 17-18, when he registered a five-under-par (213) en route to a fifth place finish. His low round was a 69, carded two times at the GCU Invitational.

With his 10th place performance at this past weekend’s Ivy League Championship, Selamet garnered his third consecutive All-Ivy League accolade. The Dublin, Ohio native was a First Team selection after a fourth place finish in 2016 and Second Team honoree after a seventh place finish in 2015. In 2016-17, the senior ranked fourth among Columbia golfers with a 74.83 stroke average with four top-25 performances in 2016-17.
