STATE COLLEGE, Pa. —Columbia opens its fall 2017 women’s golf schedule when it travels to Penn State’s Blue and White Golf Course for this weekend’s Nittany Lion Invitational. The Lions will compete in the two-day 54-hole stroke play event with a 36-hole shotgun start on Saturday and 18-hole shotgun start on Sunday. Competition begins on Saturday at 9 a.m. The Lions will be in State College for a Friday practice round.

Fourteen teams will compete in the event including Columbia, Bucknell, Delaware, Harvard, Maryland, Ohio, Penn, host Penn State, Princeton, Rutgers, Seton Hall, South Florida, Yale and Youngstown State. Columbia will travel six golfers to the event. Junior Amy Ding, sophomore Ridhima Dilawari, senior Nancy Xu and first-years Kim Chiang and Katie Lee will compete for the Lions, while sophomore Emily Chu will compete as an individual.


Last year, Columbia opened its fall season at the Nittany Lion Invitational and finished second out of nine teams with a 907. Six Columbia golfers finished among the field’s top-20 last year. Following the Nittany Lion Invitational, Columbia won each of its next two invitationals at Princeton and Yale respectively.


The weekend’s event marks the first of four fall tournaments that the Lions will compete in. Columbia will also travel to the Springdale Golf Club for the Princeton Invitational (Sept. 30-Oct. 1), New Haven, Conn. to compete in the Yale Women’s Intercollegiate (Oct. 6-8) and Louisville, Ky. for the Louisville Cardinal Cup.
