STATE COLLEGE, Pa.—The Columbia women’s tennis team travels to State College to compete against Penn State in a dual match Friday at 4 p.m. The match will be played at Penn State’s Indoor Tennis Center. Live scoring for the event can be found at this link.
Columbia enters its third match of the season with a 2-1 record. Following back-to-back 7-0 victories over Rhode Island and Saint Peter’s, the Lions dropped a 5-2 match at Syracuse last Sunday. Head Coach Ilene Weintraub earned her 100th career dual match victory with the Lions’ 7-0 win over Saint Peter’s on Jan. 26.
In singles, Columbia junior Andrea Kevakian enters the weekend with a 10-match individual win streak intact along with a 12-2 overall record. Junior Sarah Hu ranks second on the squad with 11 singles wins, followed by sophomore Renee Ren (8-2) and sophomore Ali Pollack (7-5) and senior Adi Milstein (5-4). First-years Christie Wan (5-8) and Jennifer Kerr (8-6) have assumed the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions for the Lions. In doubles, Milstein and Wan are one of the top doubles duos in the Northeast with a 14-3 overall record.
Penn State enters its match with a 3-0 record following wins over Navy (4-3), Towson (4-3) and Temple (4-0). Last year, Columbia defeated Penn State 4-2 on Feb. 25, 2017 in Huntington, W.Va. Next weekend, the Lions will travel to Princeton, N.J. to compete in the annual ECAC Tournament, Feb. 9-11.
