STATE COLLEGE, PA- After almost two months off from NCAA competition, Columbia fencing will finally be back in action on Sunday at the Penn State Invitational. Last game : NYU

The Columbia Men’s and Women’s fencing teams are both coming off victories against NYU on November 22.

On the men’s side, the Lions rallied for a 14-13 come from behind win against the Violets, for it’s tightest victory of the season. Women’s fencing only surrendered two bouts to NYU throughout the entire match and beat the Violets handily, 25-2.

Looking Back : Penn State Invitiational 2016

The Columbia women's fencing team posted a 7-0 sweep while the men's squad grabbed four of six wins at the Penn State Invitational on Saturday, January 16, 2016.

Scouting the Competition

Haverford: Columbia has been participating in the Penn State invitational since the 2012-13 season and has never dropped a match to Haverford. The Lions have also never scored less than 21 points in each of their matches.

Penn State: Columbia men's fencing is hoping to avenge their 16-11 loss to Penn State at last year's invitiational, while the women are going for two straight against the Nittany Lions.

North Carolina: The Lions have beaten the Tarheels in 4 straight seasons. UNC men's fencing is currently 4-7 on the season, while the women are 8-3.

Temple: Temple only fences on the women's side, and Columbia has seen them already this season. The Lions defeated the Owls 14-13 at the Penn Elite tournament in November.

Penn: The last time Columbia met Penn was at the Ivy League championships last season. The men's side will be looking to make up for their 16-11 loss against the Quakers, and the Columbia women will look for five straight against Penn.

Duke: Last year, the Columbia women defeated Duke 17-10 at the Penn State Invitiational while the men lost a tough contest 15-12.

Yale: Both men's and women's fencing beat the bulldogs last year at the Penn State Invitational and Ivy League Championships. Yale men's fencing is 7-3 on the season and the women are 8-3.
