Queens, N.Y. - The Lions fencing team has a jam packed weekend ahead filled with strong competition and lots of important bouts.

The first CollegeFencing 360 rankings were released today, and Columbia men and women are both ranked second in the nation. New rankings will be released after this weekend.

LAST TIME OUT 

Columbia made Nittany Lion grounds Columbia Lion territory last weekend at Penn State, as the men went 6-0 and the women's team went 4-2 at the Penn State Invite. 

On the men's side, the foil squad led the way as Sam Moelis went 12-2 and first-year Sidarth Kumbla posted a 12-3 record. The Lions defeated Yale, North Carolina, Penn, Duke, Haverford and Penn State. 

The women's squad was short handed last weekend, as three of the four women's foilists were competing at the foil World Cup in Poland, but Iman Blow, Sylvie Binder and Ester Schreiber are back this weekend to rejoin Quinn Crum for a full strength foil squad. Without those three, it was up to epee and sabre to step up. 

Violet Michel paced the sabre squad with an 11-4 day, while Giana Vierheller went 8-1 and Katie Angen tallied a 5-1 record competing in epee. 

ST. JOHN'S SUPER CUP: SATURDAY JAN. 20

Columbia will head to Queens for the St. Johns Super Cup on Saturday beginning at 10 am. The Lions will face .. Notre Dame, Harvard, Ohio State Penn State and St. John's 

Notre Dame won the NCAA Championship last season and Ohio State came in second place as Columbia finished third. Rosters have changed, and this is the first time the teams will face eachother this season.

PHILADELPHIA INVITATIONAL: SUNDAY JAN. 21

On Sunday, the Lions will bus up to Philly to face pretty similar competition at Penn. It will be Notre Dame, Ohio State, and St. John's for the second consecutive day, with NYU and Wayne State also in the mix.

MUY IMPORTANTE

This weekend will be huge for the Lions to see how they stack up with the national competition this season. These are also the last meets before Ivy League Championships, which will be held on Princeton on February 10-11.
