NEW YORK - Fresh off of a five-title performance at the Ivy League Indoor Heptagonal Championships, the Columbia track & field teams head to Boston this weekend for the IC4A/ECAC Championships.
The meet begins Friday with the multi-event athletes taking the stage. On Saturday at 9:30 a.m., the men’s trials and semifinals get under way, before a 3:00 p.m. start of the women’s events. Sunday features the finals for all events, and also has a 9:30 a.m. start.
After becoming victorious in the 400m during last weekend’s Indoor Heps, Akua Obeng-Akrofi has one last chance to race down a school record this weekend. The senior has the second fastest indoor 400m in school history at 53.48 from the BU Valentine Invitational on Feb. 9. Obeng-Akrofi has the opportunity to unseat Sharay Hale’s indoor record of 52.98 from the 2011 season, and has the wheels to do so with two previous outdoor performances of 52.93 and 52.47.
Another school record watch will come in the men’s pole vault. Robert O’Brien looks to rebound after skipping forward but not clearing a height during Indoor Heps. The junior improved on his school record multiple times this season, clearing 5.20m (17’0.75) during the Metropolitan Championships.
