NEW YORK - The Columbia track & field teams have two more chances to put up a regional qualifying time this weekend, during Thursday's Army Twilight Meet, and Saturday & Sunday's IC4A/ECAC Championships.
The Lions most recently tallied 13 All-Ivy League performances at last weekend's Outdoor Heps, led by championships from Ryan Thomas in the men's 5,000m, Brian Zabilski in the men's 10,000m, Sarah Hardie in the women's 1,500m, Nell Crosby in the women's 3,000m Steeplechase, and the 4x800m relay team of Sam Ritz, Jackson Storey, Alek Sauer, and Josiah Langstaff.
With Langstaff's career best 1:48.40 in the 800m for second place at Heps, the junior sits comfortably at 31st in the East Region in the event, but will try to lower that time even further at Army. Zabilski has a team-best 13:59.18 in the 5,000m this spring, and is among three Lions with a chance to qualify for regionals once again, with Kenny Vasbinder and Ryan Thomas not far behind.
An all-american last year in the steeple and the Ivy League champion in the event this year, Crosby currently has the 12th best time in the region with a 10:03.28 to her name. Her senior classmate Akua Obeng-Akrofi has a season best 52.75 in the 400m, which puts her 29th in the East. Other top performances this spring for the women include Abby McLaughlin's 10K, which sits 28th at 33:53.19, Hardie in the 800m (2:07.78) and 1,500m (4:21.94), and Maryam Hassan in the triple jump (42-0.5/52nd).
The three-day NCAA East Prelims begin on Thursday, May 24 in Tampa, Florida, with the top-48 accepted entries qualifying in individual events.
