PRINCETON, N.J. – Junior goalkeeper Katie Dempsey was named Ivy League Player of the Week after making 14 saves in a 2-1 victory over Cornell Saturday afternoon. Dempsey is the second Lion to earn the honor after Maeve Doherty was selected on September 18.

With Columbia leading 1-0, Dempsey made five of her six first-half saves to keep her squad in front at the intermission. The 6-1 netminder kept the Big Red off the scoresheet until a third-effort goal with 1:43 to play. With the Lions clinging to a one-goal lead, Dempsey made two crucial saves in the final seconds to help preserve the win.

Dempsey has won five of her last six decisions and holds a 2.81 GAA with a .690 save percentage and one shutout.

Columbia is back in action this Friday, October 6, at No. 16 Princeton at 6:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the Ivy League Network. Watch on your computer, Apple TV, Roku or download the new app available on Apple and Android devices.
