NEW YORK – The Columbia men's basketball team will sponsor a "Save Haiti" relief initiative during its final home games at Levien Gym during the weekend of February 26-27.

Designed to continue promoting awareness of the ongoing need for relief in Haiti, where a devastating earthquake occurred in January, the team will wear "Save Haiti" warmups prior to both games.

No money will be collected at Levien Gym, but anyone interested in donating to the relief effort can text BEST to 501501 to donate $5 instantly.

Columbia Men's Basketball is partnering with Project Medishare for Haiti, which was founded in 1995 by Drs. Barth Green and Arthur Fournier from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Project Medishare is an organization dedicated to sharing their human and technical resources with Haitian partners over the past 15 years in the quest to achieve quality healthcare and development services for all in Haiti.

The morning after the earthquake hit in Haiti, Dr. Green and his team of trauma surgeons were the first civilian medical unit to arrive in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Dr. Green began working closely with President Préval, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Interior, at which time Préval designated Dr. Green and Project Medishare as the organization responsible for coordinating all medical teams on the ground and implementing a plan to set up field hospitals and triage centers around Port-au-Prince. Since then, a 240-bed hospital has been built in the capital city.
