From late afternoons on the Harlem River to the waters of Australia in the Olympic Games, Tom Auth has traveled the globe with an oar in his hand.

Rowing in the stroke seat for Columbia’s varsity eight as a senior in 1990, Auth was a silver medalist in the coxed four at the IRA National Championship Regatta.   He was invited to the United States National team training camp while at Columbia and twice was awarded the Eisenhower Watch as Columbia’s top scholar-athlete.

Auth graduated summa cum laude from Columbia College and received a law degree from Harvard Law School in 1994.  Meanwhile, he continued to row and gained a place on the 1996 and 2000 United States Olympic rowing teams.

In addition to his Olympic accomplishments, Auth won a gold medal at the 1999 Pan American Championships, a bronze medal at the World Championships, a silver medal at the World Cup and has captured numerous United States national championships.

A native of Maplewood, N.J., Auth still happily recalls his time at Columbia, noting that “my fondest memories revolve around rowing and just being on campus.  Races, especially away races, with overnights and training trips to Tampa and Kent, Connecticut were wonderful experiences.”

Auth is now an avid cyclist, traversing the streets of New York City the same way he was able to traverse the open waters up and down the Eastern seaboard.

Auth and his wife, Karen, live on Manhattan’s East Side with their three children.
