Princeton, N.J.. - On day one of the 2012 Ivy League Championships, Thursday, March 1 at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool, the Columbia men's swimming and diving team saw strong showings from its first-year class. The Lions began the meet achieving a NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:20.48 in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of first-year Stanley Wong, first-year Daniel Gosek, first-year Alex Ngan, and junior John Wright earned points with a third place finish in the event

First-year Dominik Koll led the way in the championship final of the 500 yard freestyle, finishing with a NCAA 'B' cut time of 4:21.68 in a third place finish. First-year David Jakl followed with a first place finish in the consolation finals with a time of 4:33.50.

In the 200 IM, sophomore Eric Traub took a third place finish in the 'B' finals, hitting the wall at 1:50.27. Also adding points in the event was junior Patrick Dougherty who finished third in the consolation finals with a time of 1:52.13.

One of Columbia's best showings of the day came in the 50 yard freestyle. Wright posted a NCAA 'B' cut time of 20.26 and Gosek hit the wall just one second behind at 20.27 for his second NCAA 'B' cut time of the day.

Junior Jason Collazo paced the diving for the Lions with a second place finish in the 'B' final of the 1 meter diving event, tallying 291.15 points. First-year Micah Rembrandt also came in third with a total 287.60 points.

Columbia finishes day one of the Ivy League championships in fifth place with 231 points. Day two of the championships will begin on Friday, March 2 with preliminary swims starting at 11 a.m followed by the championship finals at 6 p.m.
