HANOVER, N.H. - Despite a strong effort by the Columbia's women's basketball team, Dartmouth held on to an early lead to defeat Columbia 87-52 in Leede Arena on Senior Night. With the loss, the Lions are now 3-24 overall, 1-12 in Ivy League play.

Dartmouth opened the game with a three from Milica Toskovic at 19:27, and up 3-0, the Big Green never looked back. Columbia kept it close for the first five minutes. Junior Tyler Simpson scored on a layup at 18:54 to make it 3-2, and a layup by Bradford at 16:37 kept it within one, 7-6. But Dartmouth went on a 12-2 run to widen the gap.

Simpson continued her efforts to chip away at the Dartmouth lead, knocking back 12 of Columbia’s first 14 points in the first 13 minutes of the half, including shooting 6-for-6 from the line.

The Big Green went on another 11-2 run in the middle of the first half, capped with another three-pointer by Toskovic at 7:30, 31-14.  First-year Campbell Mobley had a layup under the basket at 6:33 and added a free throw at 3:36 to add to Columbia’s point total, but Dartmouth went into the break with a 43-19 lead. Columbia shot 23% from the field in the first half, including 0-for10 from behind the arc.

The Lions had a stronger showing in the second stanza, nearly matching Dartmouth’s scoring, but were unable to dig themselves out of the first-half hole.

Sophomore Taylor Ward went 4-for-7 from behind the arc in the second half, scoring all 12 of her points to boost Columbia’s offense. But Dartmouth shot 50% from the field in the final 20 minutes, with Nicola Zimmer leading the charge. Zimmer, one of five Dartmouth players to score in double figures, had 12 second-half points, including 6-for-8 from the free throw line, and 3-for-5 from the field.

Behind Zimmer’s lead, Dartmouth won the game, 87-52. Dartmouth’s Faziah Steen led all players with 18 points, while Zimmer and Toskovic added 17 apiece, Eve Zelinger scored 16, and Tia Dawson added 11.

Simpson and Ward led Columbia with 18 and 12 points respectively. Simpson also had seven rebounds in the game. First-year Campbell Mobley led Columbia on the boards with 8 rebounds, adding seven points in the loss.

Up next for Columbia is the final game of the season at Cornell, Tuesday, March 6 at 7 p.m.
