NYU/Manhattanville Spring Invitational: Round 1 Results
PRINCETON, N.J. -- Brendan Doyle and Ford Fischer each carded rounds in the 60s and the Columbia men’s golf team sits one shot out of first place after Saturday’s first two rounds of the Princeton Invitational at Springdale Golf Club.
The Lions shot 288-288--576 (+8) and sit just behind tournament leaders Georgetown (286-289--575 (+7)) and Yale (286-288--575 (+7)). First through fifth place is separated by just three strokes as Harvard is fourth at 9-over 577 and Princeton is fifth at 10-over 578.
Doyle carded a 68-73--141 (-1) and is tied for fourth place. He trails first-place Tony Grillo of Harvard by three shots. The senior tied for fourth with eight birdies through the first two rounds. He was at his best on the par 5s, where he had a 4.33 (-4) average to tie for fourth in the 75-player field. His 3-under 68 in the first round ties for his lowest par score and stands as his second-lowest overall round score of the season. He previously shot a 3-under 67 at The MacDonald Cup, held Oct. 15-16.
Fischer is tied for eighth after shooting 74-68--142 (E). The second-round 3-under 68 is the junior’s lowest round of the season. Fischer had seven birdies on the day to tie for eighth. He did his best work on the par 3s with a 3.13 (+1) average and on the par 4s with a 4.05 (+1 ) mark.
Sophomore Jordan Lee stands tied for 18th after shooting 73-73--146 (+4) and junior Michael Yiu is tied for 20th at 73-74--147 (+5). Sophomore Andrew Kim rounded out the five-man team tied for 64th at 80-78--158 (+16).
Sunday’s final round starts on the first hole and the Lions will tee off starting at 9:25 a.m.
Lions At NYU/Manhattanville Spring Invitational
Out at the NYU/Manhattanville Spring Invitational at Hampshire Country Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y., two Columbia golfers had impressive showings competing as individuals. First-year Brandon Jowers is tie for second place after shooting a 2-over 73. Junior Stephen LaRouere is tied for 13th at 7-over 78.
Sunday’s final round will tee off at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
