NEW YORK-Junior Katie Meili and sophomore Laney Kluge were honored
this week as CollegeSwimming.com Mid-Major All-Americans. Meili grabbed a first
team honor and Kluge joined with an honorable mention nod.
Honorable mention selections are swimmers who were entered
with NCAA 'B' standards, but not selected for the 2011 NCAA Swimming &
Diving Championships.
The following conferences have been designated as
Mid-Majors: America East, Atlantic 10, Colonial Athletic Association, Coastal
Collegiate Swimming Association, Horizon, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American,
Mountain Pacific, Missouri Valley, Patriot, Sun Belt, Summit, and Western
Athletic. Institutions are also
eligible by awarding fewer than half of the maximum-allowable scholarships
(seven for women, five for men).
A complete list of honorees is available here, while the
complete release is available here.
Upcoming seniors Caroline Lukins, Meili, and Kristina Parsons will be the captains of the 2012-13 Columbia women's swimming squad as
recently announced by head coach Diana Caskey.
"Each of the three rising seniors bring different strengths
to their team. What they have in common, however is that team success is their number one priority and each has an amazing level of commitment to the sport and excellence. It is a very exciting trio to lead us into the 2012-13 season, especially coming off the momentum and success of this past year," said Caskey.
