NEW YORK - Columbia men's soccer head coach Kevin Anderson has
announced the recruiting class of eight student-athletes to join the team as
the Class of 2016.
"As a class I believe we have secured another very talented
group that has the potential to make an immediate impact upon their arrival.
Their talents range from scoring goals, to serving crosses, stopping shots,
winning battles and most important all coming from winning environments.
Winning matters, both on and off the field at Columbia Men's Soccer, " said
Coach Anderson.
Joining the Lions are:
Alex Butwin - Forward/Midfielder - Old Westbury, New York
Kyle Culbertson - Midfielder/Defender - Delaware, Ohio
Frederick Elliot - Defender/Midfielder - Roseland, New
Jersey
Kyle Jackson - Goalkeeper - Paradise Valley, Arizona
Antonio Matarazzo - Midfielder/Defender - Fair Lawn, New
Jersey
Luke Rossi - Goalkeeper - East Hanover, New Jersey
Matthew Shinksy - Midfielder - Fork, Maryland
Bryce Terill -
Defender - Scottsdale, Arizona
Alexander Butwin
Hometown: Old Westbury, N.Y.
High School: The Wheatley School, Old Westbury, N.Y.
Club Team: Albertson Soccer Club
Butwin is a four-year letterwinner at The Wheatley School.
As the senior captain he led the Wildcats to the Long Island Championship and was a N.Y.
State Finalist in 2012. He
received an All Nassau County nod in 2012 and was named one of MSG Newsday's
"Top 20 Boys Soccer Players to Watch on Long Island."
He has been a member of the Albertson Soccer Club since
2004. The midfielder helped lead the team to the United States Soccer Federation
Eastern Conference championship in 2011.
Kyle Culbertson
Hometown: Delaware, Ohio
High School: Olentangy High School, Lewis Center, Ohio
Club Team: Columbus Crew
As a senior, Culbertson earned District and Conference Player
of the Year honors in 2010. In the same year he
received his second all-conference and all-district first team nods. The OHSAA
High School All-American led his team to a Conference Championship as captain
with 22 goals and eight assists on the year.
As a member of the Columbus Crew in 2011 they won the U19
OSYSA State Championship and followed with the Super 20s National Championship.
Culbertson also played two years in the USL Development League. In the summer of
2011 he saw action with the Cincinnati Kings and again with the Mississippi
Brilla in 2012.
Frederick Elliot
Hometown: Roseland, N.J.
High School: The Pingry School, Martinsville, N.J.
Club Team: New York Red Bulls
In his freshman season, Elliot was a member of the 2008 NJ
State Championship team. He played a vital role with the three-time county
championship squad. Elliot is a two-time first team All Somerset County
selection and received all-state nods in his junior and senior seasons. The
midfielder posted 15 goals and eight assists in his senior season.
Kyle Jackson
Hometown: Paradise Valley, Ariz.
High School: Chaparral High School, Scottsdale, Ariz.
Club Team: Sereno Soccer Club
Jackson is a five-time Arizona State champion with the
Sereno Soccer club. In his senior season the goalkeeper helped anchor Chapparal
in their run to the 2012 Arizona state semifinals. Jackson was a
three-sport athlete in lacrosse, soccer and track.
Antonio Matarazzo
Hometown: Fair Lawn, N.J.
High School: Fair Lawn High School, Fair Lawn, N.J.
Club Team: New York Red Bulls
A three-year letterwinner at Fair Lawn High School, Matarazzo is a two-time Bergen County
All-League selection. In two seasons the midfielder tallied 20 goals and 15
assists in the 2010 and 2011 seasons. He was a member of the New York Red Bulls
club team that finished the regular season fourth in the nation in 2012.
Luke Rossi
Hometown: East Hanover, N.J.
High School: Delbarton School, Morristown, N.J.
Club Team: NJSA Gunners, New York Red Bulls
Rossi played for the three time NJAC conference champion
Delbarton School soccer team. His achievements in soccer came at an early age
being named MVP of the 2007 NJYSA State Championship playing for the NJSA Gunners. Born
in London, England, the goalkeeper was a three-time letterwinner and received
all-conference recognition his senior season.
Matthew Shinsky
Hometown: Fork, Md.
High School: McDonough School, Owings Mills, Md.
Club Team: Baltimore Bays Chelsea, US Academy League
A four-time soccer letterwinner at the McDonough School,
Shinsky emerged as a four-sport athlete. He was a two-time captain in 2010 and
2011 receiving All-Metro honors in his senior season. Shinsky also had
summer success as a two time USYSA State Champion in 2008 and 2009. His team went on to win the USYSA National Championship in 2009.
Bryce Terrill
Hometown: Scottsdale, Ariz.
High School: Desert Mountain High School, Scottsdale, Ariz.
Club Team: Sereno Soccer Club
Terrill was a
top defender for the Desert Mountain Wolves. The Dr. Voi Stuart Chase Coy
Scholar Athlete Award recipient competed in the Gothia Cup in Sweden with ODP
where his team finished in the top five out of 64 teams. Terrill was a member of the
Sereno Soccer Club, which was the Far West Regional Champion in 2009 and 2011.
