GUANAJUATO, Mexico – Columbia track and cross country alum Kyle Merber ’12CC won gold for the U.S. on Friday at the NACAC U-23 Championships in Guanajuato, Mexico.

Merber, who completed his stellar Columbia career last month at the NCAA Championships, took first in the men’s 1,500m with a time of 3:51.61. The Americans dominated on Friday, winning 12 of the 16 finals events.

Columbia rising senior Leighton Spencer represented Jamaica in the men’s 10,000m.

The NACAC U-23 Championships run from July 6-8. NACAC stands for North American, Central American and Caribbean. The NACAC U-23 Championships are held every two years and feature top athletes under the age of 23 from all three regions. The NACAC is one of six area associations of the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF). This year's event marks the third time it has been held in Mexico.
