NEW YORK -- Columbia wrestling alumnus David Barry ’87CC looks to help the U.S. win gold at the 2012 Olympic Games in London as the the Greco-Roman Team
Leader for USA Wrestling.
Barry, who was
recently named USA Wrestling’s Myron Roderick Man of the Year, has served as the Greco-Roman Team Leader since 2009.
The Greco-Roman events run from Aug. 5-7 in the ExCel venue. Here's a quick schedule:
Aug. 5: Men's 55kg Greco-Roman, Men's 74kg Greco-Roman
Aug. 6: Men's 60kg Greco-Roman, Men's 84kg Greco-Roman, Men's 120kg Greco-Roman
Aug. 7: Men's 66kg Greco-Roman, Men's 96kg Greco-Roman

Over the years, Barry has been one of the strongest supporters of the sport of wrestling and the elite athletes who represent the United States on the global stage. He has provided financial support
for a variety of USA Wrestling projects that provide additional
training and competition opportunities for all wrestlers and expanded
direct support for elite athletes.
Barry also serves as a steward for the
Living The Dream Medal Fund, which provides financial support for the
nation’s wrestling champions as they work to represent the United States
at the World Championships and the Olympic Games.
In addition, Barry serves as a trustee
for Beat The Streets, an organization whose mission is to expand and
develop wrestling in the New York City Metropolitan Area from the youth
through the Olympic level.
During his Columbia wrestling career,
Barry was a first-team All-Ivy League selection as a sophomore, a
two-time EIWA placewinner and a team captain as a senior.
In 2011, David Barry and his brother Michael Barry ’89CC generously
committed to establishing an endowment in support of a Columbia
assistant wrestling coach position. This past May, both Barry brothers received Athletics Alumni
Awards at the 91st Annual Varsity C Celebration: Celebrating Our Student-Athletes at Levien Gymnasium.
