LONDON - On Day 6 of the XXX Olympiad, Columbia's Nzingha Prescod '15CC and Nicole Ross '11CC helped lead the United States women's foil team to a sixth-place finish in the team competition.

After a first round loss to Korea, the Americans defeated Japan 44-22 in their next bout.

“We’d prepared for [the Korea] bout for months and it was devastating to lose that bout. But I think that’s something about our character," Ross told USFencing.com "We never give up. We’re fighting through it all the time, every single touch, every minute of every period and we’re not quitting,” Ross said.

In the fifth place bout to end the competition against Poland, the United States rallied from an early deficit to edge closer to the Poles but ultimately dropped the bout, 45-39 to Poland.

The men's sabre team, which features Columbia alumni James Williams '07 and Jeff Spear '10, will begin its team competition tomorrow, Friday, August 3 at 11:30 a.m. London time.

On the water, Nick La Cava '09 and his teammates in the United States lightweight four boat finished second in the B final. The Americans came in second in a time of 6:09.23, less than a second behind France. South Africa won the A final to capture the gold medal in the race.
