LONDON - On the ninth day of the 2012 London Olympics, Columbia alum Lisa Stublic '06CC ran an incredible marathon, staying within one second of the leader at the halfway point.

In the end, Stublic finished the marathon in a time of 2:34.03, which placed 52nd overall in the 118-woman field. At the 13.1-mile mark, halfway through the grueling race, Stublic was in ninth place, a second off the pace. Her half-marathon split was 1:13.14.

Competing for Croatia, her father's native country, Stublic was a cross country standout at Columbia. In Stublic's four years at Columbia, the women's cross country team won the Ivy League Heptagonal title in each year. She gained All-America honors and was a two-time first team All-Ivy League honoree at Columbia.

In fencing, Columbian Sherif Farrag '09CC competed for Egypt, where he was born, in the men's foil team competition on Sunday morning.

Egypt faced the hosts Great Britain in the round of 16 in the team competition and the hosts defeated the Egyptians 45-33 to advance to the quarterfinal round.
