NEW YORK - The Columbia women's soccer team will open up its 2012 slate this weekend with a road trip to Washington D.C. where the Lions will take on George Washington Saturday and Georgetown Monday as part of the D.C. Invitational. Game time for both matches is set for 1 p.m.

The Lions return a strong core from the 2011 squad, while adding five newcomers to the roster. Columbia return three of its top-five point scorers from a season ago in Alexa Yow, Coleen Rizzo and Chelsea Ryan.

Isabel King and Shannon FitzPatrick will lead the Lions as the 2012 captains. King, FitzPatrick and Catherine Troup, all starting defenders in 2011, return to the pitch together this season. The trio combined for 43 starts during the 2011 campaign.

George Washington comes into Saturday's contest with a two-match head start on Columbia, posting a 1-2 record through the first two weeks of the season. Under first-year head coach Sarah Barnes leadership, the Colonials have fallen to local rivals Georgetown (2-0) and George Mason (2-1) in August.

Senior Adriana Moya has tallied the Colonials' lone score on a penalty kick attempt against George Mason. Moya led George Washington with three goals and nine points last season.

Nicole Ulrick and Nicole Fasano have each started one game in net for George Washington. Fasano has seen the majority of the minutes, while also allowing all four goals for a 2.60 goals-against average.

Georgetown heads into the D.C. Invitational sporting a perfect 4-0 record this season. The Hoyas opened the year with shutout victories over George Washington (2-0), Delaware (2-0) and James Madison (1-0) before downing Hofstra 2-1 on Aug. 26.

Kaitlin Brenn was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after scoring a pair of goals at the JMU Invitational. Brenn placed a ball in the back of the net against both JMU and Hofstra, on way to her selection to the all-tournament team.

Georgetown goalkeeper Emma Newins carries a 0.25 goals-against average, making 15 saves this year. The Hoyas' 4-0 start can largely be credited to the 348:53 span to start the season in which the Georgetown defense did not allow a goal.
