TUXEDO PARK, N.Y. - The Columbia men's golf team
dropped its fall opener Saturday to Army, 7-4, in a format similar to the Ryder
Cup. Playing the event as part of Patriot Golf Day, Columbia partnered with
Army and The Tuxedo Club to raise money for the Folds of Honor Foundation, a
non-profit organization that provides educational scholarships to the children
and spouses of military men and women disabled or killed while serving our
Singles play commenced during the morning round
of golf at the par-71, 6,607-yard Tuxedo Club, with Army securing wins in five
of seven matches. Columbia's Ford Fischer and Jordan Lee defeated their respective
opponents, each by a score of 4&3.
In the afternoon, the teams competed in four-ball
matches. The teams split the weather-shortened round, with both Columbia and
Army winning two matches. The tandem of Harrision Shih and head coach Richard
Mueller secured a 1-up victory in their match, while Andrew Kim and John
Davenport took a 2&1 decision.
The Lions will be back in action next weekend,
competing at The McLaughlin. That tournament will be held in Farmingdale, N.Y.
at Bethpage Red.
