NEW YORK - The Columbia women's soccer team continues its
five-match homestand this weekend, playing host to Fordham and Marist. The
Lions will do battle with the Rams Friday at 7 p.m. and then take to the pitch
against the Red Foxes Sunday at 1 p.m.
Columbia played a pair of matches at the Columbia Soccer
Stadium last weekend, defeating Sacred Heart (2-0), but falling to St. John's
in overtime (2-1). Beverly Leon and Coleen Rizzo netted goals in the Lions'
victory over Sacred Heart, while Tori Goode provided Columbia's tally in the
game against St. John's.
Leon earned a spot on the Ivy League weekly Honor Roll with
her goal, as well as assisting on Goode's score.
Fordham comes into Friday's matchup carrying a 2-4 mark. The
Rams opened the season with losses at Michigan and Michigan State before
defeating Manhattan Aug. 24. Most
recently on Sept. 9, Fordham went on the road and defeated ACC opponent
Rachel Suther provided a career-high 12 saves in net for the Rams and Kristina
Maksuti notched the game-winner to lead Fordham past the Terps. Maksuti has two
goals on the year to lead Fordham.
Marist currently holds a 5-2 overall record. The Red Foxes
will travel to Bethlehem, Pa. Friday night to face Lehigh before Sunday's
contest at Columbia. Marist has won three of its last four contests, topping
Fordham (1-0) and Penn (2-0) on the road and Hofstra (4-2) at home.
Rycke Guiney recorded a pair of goals in Marist's victory
over Hofstra. Her three tallies on the year trails only Chelsea Botta, who has
four goals and nine points through seven games. Andrea Wicks has played almost
420 minutes in goal for Marist, collecting 18 saves and a 1.50 goals-against
