NEW YORK - The Columbia men's soccer team will play its
first of four consecutive road matches this Saturday, traveling to Brooklyn,
N.Y. to face Long Island. Kick-off at LIU Field is set for 6 p.m.
Columbia enters Saturday's contest having the entire week to
prepare for the Blackbirds. The Lions last took the pitch Sept. 15, losing a
physical game to Delaware, 1-0.
Columbia has been in each of the six games it has played
this season. The Lions are tied for third in the conference with Yale, having
allowed only five goals this season. Goalkeeping has been a point of strength
for Columbia, as both Kyle Jackson and Michael Attal rank in the top-10 in
goals-against. Jackson sits in fourth with a 0.67 average, while Attal ranks
sixth with an even 1.00 average.
Both Columbia and LIU-Brooklyn have struggled on the
offensive end. The Lions have four different one-goal scorers, while the
Blackbirds have only tallied three goals, two coming from Jakeem Johnson.
LIU-Brooklyn carries a 1-7-0 mark into Saturday's match, with
its lone win coming at home against Rider Sept. 8. Since then, the Blackbirds
have dropped a pair of 2-0 contests to Fairfield and La Salle. Columbia will
serve as the final tune-up before LIU-Brooklyn begins NEC play.
Columbia will play its next four matches on the road
beginning Saturday. A short trip to Queens, N.Y. to face St. John's awaits on
Tuesday before Ivy League action kicks off with a visit to Brown Sept. 29.
