NEW YORK – The Columbia women’s golf team will visit State
College, Pa. Sept. 28-30, competing in the Nittany Lion Invitational, set to be
played on the Penn State Blue Course.
Columbia will be among 16 teams in action at Penn State this
weekend, including fellow Ivy League schools Yale, Harvard and Princeton.
Tournament play is slated for three days, beginning with the first round Friday
on the par-72, 6,229-yard course.
Last year’s Nittany Lion Invitational was shortened to
36-holes following inclement weather, with Columbia claiming 12th. Through the
first two tournaments of the 2012 season, the Lions have secured finishes of
fifth and fourth. Columbia opened the year placing fifth at the Bucknell Invitational
before heading to the Murray State Drake Creek Invitational where it claimed
fourth.
Columbia has had a top-10 individual finisher in each of the
first two tournaments. In her first collegiate tournament, Monique Ishikawa tied
for second at the Bucknell Inivitational, while Michelle Piyapattra came in
seventh at Drake Creek.
After this weekend, the Lions have just one remaining fall
tournament. From Friday, Oct. 26 through Sunday, Oct. 28, Columbia will compete
at the Lady Paladin Invitational in Greenville, S.C.
