NEW YORK - Columbia field hockey will hit the road to take on Yale on Saturday at noon and Rutgers on Sunday at 1:00 p.m., marking the Lions final non-conference game of the season.
Columbia (8-6, 3-2) fell to Dartmouth, 5-2, last Sunday on Senior Day at the Baker Athletics Complex. Seniors Katie DeSandis and Paige Simmons recorded the goals for the Lions, and classmate Christie O'Hara played a strong game in goal, making 15 saves.
The Bulldogs (4-10, 1-4) dropped a pair of home games last week and have lost six of their last seven. Erica Borgo leads Yale with 10 points (4 G, 2A) on the year. Goalkeeper Emily Cain is averaging 7.5 saves per game, which puts her 12th in the nation, and has a 3.83 goals against average.
Columbia narrowly fell to the Elis, 2-1, last season at home. After falling behind 2-0 in the first half, Desi Scherf scored in the 55th minute to cut the deficit in half, but the Lions could not score the equalizer.
Rutgers (8-9) has lost three in a row, including a 2-1 decision to Brown on Oct. 21. Lisa Patrone paces the offense with eight goals and three assists for 19 points. Sarah Stuby has started all 17 games in net and has a 2.17 GAA with a pair of shutouts.
Liz Malone and Gabby Kozlowski each scored in a 2-1 win against the Scarlet Knights last year. All three goals were potted in the first half, and Rutgers was on the attack for much of the second frame. However, Columbia's back line was up to the task, and Lauren Skudalski and Katie DeSandis came up with a pair of key defensive saves to preserve the victory.
Live stats will be available for each game and Sunday's contest will have a live video stream.
