NEW YORK - The Columbia women's soccer team will look to
snap a three-game losing streak in Ivy League play Saturday when it visits Yale
for a 2 p.m. tilt at Reese Stadium.
It has been a tough four-game stretch for the Lions, going
1-3, with each loss coming by just one goal. Columbia shutout NJIT on Oct. 7,
2-0, with leading goal-scorers Coleen Rizzo (6) and Beverly Leon (5) each
tallying a goal, but dropped a trio of Ivy League contests to Penn, Princeton
and Dartmouth.
Last Saturday's loss to Dartmouth was a heartbreaker, as the Big Green used a
second half goal to tip the game in their favor. Columbia goalkeeper Grace
Redmon made a season-high 10 saves and the Columbia offense continued to
attack, but two late headers by Rizzo just missed the net, allowing Dartmouth
to escape with the 1-0 win.
Yale enters Saturday's game at 7-7 overall, but just 1-4 in
Ivy League play. Last Saturday, the Bulldogs fell at home to Penn, 2-0, but
rebounded with a 1-0 defeat of Fairfield Monday. Anne Song netted the
game-winner in the second overtime against the Stags.
Kristen Forster paces the Yale offense, racking up 15 points
this season on six goals and three assists. The Bulldogs have used three
goalkeepers this season with Rachel Ames playing the most minutes (736). Ames
has stopped 41 shots this season for a save percentage of .804, but has an 1-5
record.
The Bulldogs hold the all-time series lead at 19-5-3. In
last season's meeting at the Baker Athletics Complex, Columbia and Yale played
to a 2-2 tie.
