NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Beverly Leon tallied her sixth goal of the season in the second half against Yale Saturday, as the Columbia women's soccer team tied the Bulldogs, 1-1, at Reese Stadium.

Yale jumped out to an early lead on Columbia, scoring just 48 seconds into the game. Georgiana Wagemann gave the Bulldogs the lead on her first goal of the season, scoring near post off a pass from Anne Song.

Columbia responded though, continuously challenging the Yale defense through the first half. The Lions tallied seven shots in the opening half, including two on net from Natalie Melo. Yale would have just one more shot the rest of the first half. That attempt off the foot of Kristen Forster nearly put the Bulldogs ahead 2-0, but Isabel King helped clear the ball from the net just before it crossed the goal line.

The Lions continued to attack aggressively in the second half, as Melo, Coleen Rizzo and Lainey Prioleau each attempted a shot in the first three minutes after the intermission. The offensive persistence paid off in the 70th minute for Columbia.

Leon found herself one-on-one with Yale goalkeeper, Rachel Ames, and was able to fire a shot into the top corner, despite a tough angle. The goal tied Leon with Rizzo for the team lead with six and knotted the game at 1-1.  Erin Falk received credit for an assist on the play.

Columbia goalkeeper Gabby Dubick made a save late in the half on a Forster shot to help keep the game tied, forcing overtime.

In the first overtime, the Lions attempted four shots, but were unable to get one past Ames. In the second extra period, neither team had a scoring opportunity, as the game to a close at 1-1.

The stout Columbia defense limited Yale to just six total shots and only three on net, while the Lions racked up 21 shots.

Columbia wraps up the 2012 season in Cambridge, Mass. Next Saturday in a 12 p.m. tilt against Harvard.
