NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Henning Sauerbier scored his second goal of the season in the first half at Yale Saturday, as the Columbia men’s soccer team tied the Bulldogs 1-1.

Columbia challenged the Yale defense early and often, as Will Young and Antonio Matarazzo fired two shots in the opening 10 minutes.

The offensive onslaught resulted in Sauerbier’s goal in the 14th minute. Kyle Culbertson sent a nice pass up field to Sauerbier, who placed his shot inside the far post from 15 yards out. The goal gave Columbia a 1-0 lead that they would take into halftime.

Scott Armbrust provided the equalizer for Yale midway through the second half. Armbrust used a chip shot in the 70th minute to tie the game at 1-1.

Sauerbier had a chance with a minute left in regulation to win the game for Columbia after deking the Yale goalkeeper, but his shot was cleared out by a sliding defender.

In the two extra sessions of action, both teams registered a trio of shots but the game-winner was avoided and the game ended 1-1.

Kyle Jackson finished the game with four saves, including two in overtime.

Columbia will be in action Wednesday night at home against Adelphi at 7 p.m. before heading back on the road to take on Harvard in Cambridge, Mass. Saturday.
