HANOVER, N.H. - Columbia volleyball earned its third
consecutive win with a 3-0 sweep at Dartmouth Friday evening by scores of
25-12, 25-23, 25-20.
Columbia (12-9, 7-5 Ivy League) handed Dartmouth (2-20, 1-11
Ivy League) its 12th straight loss as the Lions closed out road
action for the season with a solid victory.
The Lions controlled the majority of the first set, jumping
out to an early 5-1 lead after scoring five straight points. The Big Green then
used a 5-1 run to even the score at 6-6. The score was tied twice more before
Columbia took off on a 7-0 run and did not look back the rest of the way.
In the second set, the Lions built up to as much as a
nine-point lead before Dartmouth rallied to make it close. With Columbia up
16-7, the Big Green used a 10-2 run to come within two points. Dartmouth later
scored two consecutive points to trail by one, 20-19, but the Lions stayed on
top to close out the set with a win.
Columbia led for most of the third set, except for a 12-12
tie midway through due to a 7-0 Dartmouth run. The Lions answered with four
straight points and led for the remainder of the set en route to a third set
and match victory.
Senior Megan Gaughn again led the Lions with 15 kills on the
night, while Caitlin Brenton chipped in with 10. Brenton and Heather Braunagel led
the way with a team-best .500 hitting percentage.
The Lions return to New York City for their final matches of
the season as they host Penn on Friday at 7 p.m. followed by a 5 p.m. match
against Princeton on Saturday in Levien Gym.
