NEW YORK - The No. 9 Columbia men's squash team opened the 2012-13 season in impressive fashion Friday night, defeating No. 30 Georgetown, 9-0, at the SL Green StreetSquash Center.

The Lions came away with the clean sweep, capturing all nine matches in three games. The even numbered matches took the court first as the Lions were able to build a 4-0 lead as the courts turned over. 

Co-captain Tony Zou, playing in the No. 2 position, took the first game against Charlie Bolton by a score of 11-4 and finished the match off with back-to-back 11-7 scores in the second and third games. Senior Graham Miao gave up just 11 points in the No. 4 match, defeating James Yacobucci, 11-5, 11-3, 11-3.

Georgetown's Austen Dixon challenged Theo Buchsbaum in the No. 6 match, but the Columbia junior came away with the 11-5, 11-9, 12-10 victory. Columbia's Hyun-Ho Rhee battled Guillaume Cossard in the No. 8 position, edging his Georgetown competitor 11-6 in the first two games before easing his way to a 11-1 score in the third set to capture the match.

The remaining five matches proved similar to the first batch of matches. In the No. 1 position, Ramit Tandon took the first set of his match against Nick Kourides, 11-5, and then gave up just six points the final two sets for his first win of the season.

Daniel Saleem found himself up early in the No. 3 match, taking the first set, 11-2. The final two sets proved to be much closer, but Saleem defeated James Calello 11-8, 11-7. Junior co-captain Andrew Tan notched a rhythmic win in the No. 5 match, downing Nate Reilly, 11-5, 11-3, 11-5.

Thomas Galluccio and Avinash Reedy completed the sweep in the No. 7 and 9 positions, respectively. Galluccio found his way past Samuel Patterson, 11-9, 11-5, 11-7, while Reddy toppled William Paolella, 11-4, 11-7, 11-6.

Columbia returns to action Sunday, hosting No. 4 Cornell in an 11 a.m. match at StreetSquash.
