Day Two Results
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Columbia men's swimming and diving team finished the second day of the Brown Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 1. Looking to build on yesterday's performances, the Lions put together strong heats throughout the day, highlighted by Dominik Koll's fourth-place overall finish in the 200 free at 1:39.78.
The quartet of Omar Arafa, Matthew Swallow, David Jakl, and John Wright led the Columbia relay squads in the 200 medley relay with a sixth-place finish in 1:32.25. The Lions placed two squads in the top ten spots with the foursome of Michael Fox-Moles, Stanley Wong,Alex Ngan, and Philipp Gaissert taking ninth place at 1:33.31.
Harry Stephenson swam well for the Lions in the championship finals of the 400 IM, hitting the wall with a seventh-place time of 4:03.23. First-year Ronald Chen captured a runner-up finish in the 'B' finals of the event with a time of 4:03.79.
Jakl competed in the 100 fly and also posted a runner-up finish for the Lions in the 'C' finals at 50.25. Columbia grabbed the four of the top six spots in the 'C' finals with Kevin Quinn (fourth, 50.87), Jared Namba (fifth, 50.90), and Alex Mango (sixth, 51.30) finishing in a pack. Jakl added a fifth-place overall finish in the 100 back with a time of 51.01. Fox-Moles gained points for the Lions with an eighth-place finish (51.72) in the event. The 100 back proved to be a good event for Columbia as Daniel Gosek added a 'B' finals second-place time of 51.77.
For the second day, Jason Collazo and Micah Rembrandt took control of the boards for the Lions in the three-meter diving event. Collazo led with a third-place finish at 324.80 and Rembrandt captured sixth with 289.50.
With 339.5 team points Columbia stands in fifth place and will return for the final day of the Brown Invitational on Sunday, Dec. 2. Preliminaries will start at 11 a.m. and finals begin at 6 p.m. Live results will be available through the Active Network's Meet Mobile application available as a free download from either iTunes or Google Play. The app provides fans with the ability to view real-time results and splits, as well as heat sheets, final results, and team scores.
