BOX SCORE

HAMILTON, N.Y. - Senior Tyler Simpson had a season-high 16 points, but the Columbia women's basketball team came up short at Colgate Tuesday night, falling to the Raiders, 67-48.

Columbia (1-7) took an early lead and tied the score at 22-22 with 5:11 remaining in the first half. Colgate (3-5) outrebounded the Lions 47-33 and dished out 19 assists to Columbia's eight.

Taylor Ward and Courtney Bradford were Columbia's second leading scorers with seven points each. Defensively, Brittany Simmons grabbed a career-high six steals, while Bailey Ott led the Lions on the glass, pulling down seven boards on the night.

The Lions took the first lead of the game with a Simmons jumper before Lauryn Kobiela knocked down a three for the Raiders to take over. Columbia stayed close behind, and using a 7-2 run, tied things up at 22-22 with a three-pointer by Caitlin Unsworth with five minutes to play. But a 9-1 Colgate run featuring three consecutive baskets from deep pushed the Raiders ahead, 31-23, with 1:51 remaining.

After closing out the half trailing 37-25, Columbia came out after the break with a basket by Simpson to cut the Raiders' lead to 10, but that was as close as the Lions would get the rest of the way.

With the conclusion of its four-game road swing, Columbia will next return home to host Iona on Friday, Dec. 7 for a 7 p.m. tipoff in Levien Gym.
