NEW YORK - Columbia University senior Brittany Simmons
earned College Sports Madness Ivy League Women's Basketball Player of the Week
honors on Monday after lifting the Lions to a 49-45 victory over St. Francis
Brooklyn last week.
Simmons tied her career best with a game-high 11 points, including
a perfect 4-of-4 effort from the charity stripe. The McIntosh, Ala. native also led the way with seven
rebounds, five assists and four steals in an all-around impressive performance.
"Throughout the season, Brittany Simmons has been an
excellent leader for us both on and off the court," said Columbia women's
basketball head coach Paul Nixon. "It is certainly gratifying as her coach to
see her recognized for these efforts.
This is a well-deserved honor."
Up next, Simmons and the Lions head west to California for a
pair of games at Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton. Columbia will face
the 49ers on Dec. 29 at 4 p.m. EST, followed by a 5 p.m. EST showdown against the
Titans on Dec. 31.
