NEW YORK - Columbia
men's golf coach Rich Mueller is pleased to announce the signing of three
student-athletes to the class of 2017. Tharusyan Pillay, Christopher Chu and
Arjuna Anday will join the Lions in the fall of 2013.
Arjuna Anday - Current
NJGS Ranking: 77
A Murfreesboro, Tenn. native, Anday has been a member of the Siegel High School
golf team all four years. Ranked as the second best golfer in Tennessee and
108th nationally by AJGA, Anday is in his third season as team captain. Golfweek
has also recognized Anday as the third ranked junior golfer in the Volunteer
State and 160th nationally.
Over the past two years, Anday has three top-five finishes
in AJGA events. He was the first alternate for the USGA Junior Am Qualifier and
the second alternate for the PGA Junior Championship.
The Daily News Journal of Murfreesboro selected him as the
2011 Player of the Year. In 2012, Anday was selected to the all-mid state
first-team and the all-area DNJ squad following a runner-up finish at the TSSAA
AAA State golf tournament. Siegel captured the team title in 2012.
An AJGA HP Scholastic All-America honorable mention
selection, Anday is a member of Siegel's National Honor Society, DECA Club, Key
Club and Beta Club.
Christopher Chu - Current
NJGS Ranking: 115
Also from the West Coast, Chu hails from Fullerton, Calif., attending Sunny
Hills High School. A four-year member of the Lancers' golf team, Chu was
selected as the team captain for his senior campaign.
Chu has twice earned the distinction of Freeway League
Champion (2010, 2011) and was selected as the MVP in 2011. Sunny Hills secured
the team championship of the Freeway League also that season. In 2012, Chu
received HP All-American Scholar honors and also claimed two top-15 finishes at
junior tournaments. He finished tied for ninth at the Deutsh Bank Juniors for
Charity Shootout and tied for 15th at the AJGA Junior at Robinson Ranch.
In each of his first three years of high school (2010-12),
Chu has been a member of the Rotary Top 100 recognizing the top 100 GPA's in
the Sunny Hills school district.
Tharusyan Pillay -
Current NJGS Ranking: 277
A native of San Jose, Calif., Pillay attended Saint Francis High School where
he was a member of the golf team for four years. The top player on the junior
varsity squad his freshman and sophomores seasons, Pillay played as the No. 2
for the varsity team as a junior and the top-seed as a senior. Competing in the
West Catholic Athletic League, he has captured individual medalist honors on 12
occasions.
On the amateur circuit, Pillay has earned 15 Junior Golf
Association of Northern California titles and two top-10 finishes at American
Junior Golf Association events. Selected as a Future Collegians World Tour
All-American, Pillay has one victory and three runner-up finishes at FCWT
Junior Golf tournaments. Pillay also finished tied for fifth in the Boys 14
division at the U.S. Kids Golf Teen World Golf Championships in 2010.
In the classroom, Pillay has been a member of Saint Francis'
honor roll every semester and is also a member of the National Honor Society.
