ITA Men's Polls
SKILLMAN, N.J. - The Columbia men's tennis team will enter
the 2013 spring campaign with the 44th ranking in the first Intercollegiate
Tennis Association poll of the New Year.
The Lions completed a successful fall season, led by many
standout singles and doubles performances. Winston Lin will enter the dual
portion of his sophomore season with a matching 44th ranking. Lin, who is also
ranked second in the Northeast region, competed in the ITA All-American Championships
in Tulsa, Okla. and reached the finals of the ITA Northeast Regional
Championships. He picked up another victory in the consolation bracket at the
prestigious ITA/USTA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships.
Columbia also has two doubles teams ranked in the Jan. 3
poll. Ashok Narayana and Max Schnur will enter the season ranked 17th, while
Lin and Bert Vancura acquired the 38th slot.
Narayana and Schnur played an exceptional fall, capturing
the ITA Northeast Regional Championship with an 8-4 win over Yale's
Hoffman/Powers, who are ranked 19th. The tandem also reached the consolation
finals at the ITA All-American Championships, defeating three ranked doubles
pairs along the way. Narayana and Schnur are ranked as the top doubles team in
Lin and Vancura will head into the dual season ranked 38th
in the nation and 10th in the Northeast region.
Columbia opens the season with a home match at the Dick
Savitt Tennis Center against No. 58 BYU on Jan. 21 before heading to Oxford, Miss.
to compete at the ITA Kick-Off Classic on Jan. 25-26.
