Update on Columbia Football
There will be an update on Columbia Football on
gocolumbialions.com released every Tuesday evening in 2013. The features will include updates on
the team's off-season workouts, dates to remember and other team information
that will keep you in the know about the Columbia Football program!
Recruiting Trails
Coach Mangurian has collected significant frequent flyer
miles, visiting four states in four days.
Beginning Sunday morning, Coach travelled to Illinois, Texas, Arizona
and California. He returns to New York on Thursday for some local recruiting in
the tri-state area before the start of our recruiting weekend, which begins
Friday, January 18. Our recruiting
weekends are packed from start to finish, and we are lucky to have so many
members of the Columbia community (or Coach Mangurian's Morningside Pride)
involved. We have two weeks to
finish building this year's class. We're excited and ready.
Hitting the Weights
The Columbia Football team begins training in our new
Strength and Conditioning Center at The Campbell
Sports Center the week of January 28.
Our Director of Strength and Conditioning for Football and
Outdoor Sports, Ryan Cidzik, joined the Columbia staff in July of 2012. You can check out his bio HERE.
We caught up with Coach Cidzik to chat with him about his
off-season lifting program. This
is what he had to say about his philosophy:
"Our goals for the 2013 off-season Strength &
Conditioning Program will, as always, remain consistent with the goals set
forth by Coach Mangurian. Regardless of the time of year, one of these primary
goals is to communicate and reinforce his vision of success with our
student-athletes.
Starting next week, our athletes will know that every
training session will be approached with a destiny in mind. Sure, much like most college programs
across America, there are physical goals that need to be accomplished during
the off-season. We need to get bigger, stronger, faster and more
explosive. However, we also need
to reach the point where every part of our process to be successful is
automatic. Our vision needs to be
automatic, our confidence needs to be automatic, and our discipline needs to be
automatic. Our structure, energy and passion, down to our eating and sleeping
habits, all need to be second nature. Our high expectations and most
importantly, trusting the process to be successful needs to become
automatic.
So before any physical parameters are looked at, our team
success is highly dependent on how many of those above objectives are embedded
inside us. When we as a team are
faced with a challenge, be it in the weight room, on test day or on the
competition field on Saturdays, those things will be embedded so deeply that we
won't know what else to do - except be successful."
Check back for more updates on the off-season lifting
program!
