College Squash Scores
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The No. 9 Columbia men's squash team went
2-2 over the weekend, taking down No. 16 George Washington and No. 20 Bowdoin,
each by a score of 8-1.
Facing the Colonials Saturday afternoon, the Lions won eight
matches, posting sweeps in five. Alec Goldberg, Alex Nalle, Graham Miao,
Mohamed AbdelMaksoud and Ramit Tandon all secured three-set victories. Kyul
Rhee, Andrew Tan and Tony Zou also notched wins against George Washington in
four sets.
Sunday's match against Bowdoin produced a similar result for
Columbia as the Lions downed the Polar Bears 8-1. Tandon, Goldberg, Nalle and
Theo Buchsbaum again recorded straight-set wins while positions No. 3-4 needed
five sets to secure wins for Columbia. Miao and Daniel Saleem both took down
their opponents by taking the decisive set. Zou registered his second win in
the No. 2 spot, 11-6, 4-11, 12-10, 12-10 over Stephan Danyluk, while Rhee
bounced back from dropping the first set to beat Reid Wilson to win the No. 5
match.
Columbia also took on No. 10 St. Lawrence and No. 7 Franklin
& Marshall, losing to the Saints 8-1 and 7-2 to the Diplomats. Maio and
Tandon each earned their third win of the weekend over Franklin & Marshall,
while AbdelMaksoud notched Columbia's only win against St. Lawrence in the No.
2 position.
Columbia will next be in action when they take on No. 11 Middlebury
on Jan. 26 in Vermont.
