In his first Ivy League game against Princeton in 1971, Ted Gregory intercepted a pass from Princeton quarterback Road Plummer and returned it 56 yards for a touchdown to give the Lions a 13-7 lead in a game Columbia would go on to win in thrilling fashion, 22-20.

Little did Columbia fans know at the time that Gregory would go on to be one of the best defensive backs in school history.

By the time he was a senior Gregory was one of the most feared shutdown cornerbacks in the League and emerged as a true team leader.  For his career, Gregory picked off nine passes, averaging nearly 20 yards on each return, and as known as an explosive kick returner.

The Middletown, Ohio native was a two-time first team All-Ivy League honoree and earned All-American honorable mention status in both 1972 and 1973.  A co-captain of the 1973 squad, Gregory was selected to the All-Ivy League's Silver Anniversary Team, which tabbed the best players in the conference from 1954-79.  In 1999, he was named to the Columbia All-Century Team.

Upon his graduation in 1974, Gregory was spent over 20 years working for investment banks and he currently serves as Head of Sports and Diversity Practices at Westwood Partners.  He has remained extremely active in the Columbia circle, dedicating his time on the Football Advisory Committee since 1975.
