NEW YORK - First-year fencer Jackie Dubrovich and sophomore men's squash player Ramit Tandon have been named Columbia Student-Athletes of the Month for January.
Dubrovich was selected National Rookie of the Week by CollegeFencing360.com on Jan. 30 after outstanding performances against nationally ranked opponents during the previous weekend of action. At the St. John's Invitational, she won 10-of-11 bouts and followed up with an 11-1 record at the NYU Invitational the next day to finish January with an impressive 21-2 record. Her efforts helped the Lions' foilist post an 8-2 record while competing against eight top-10 foes.
Tandon posted an 8-1 record in January, with all of his victories coming in the form of three-game sweeps. Two of his victories came against opponents ranked in the CSA top-20 and he has helped the Lions post a 5-3 mark for the month and a No. 11 national ranking. Tandon's triumphs over top-20 opponents have included No. 9 Guilherme De Melo from Franklin & Marshall and No. 16 Kenneth Chan from Yale, to go with a victory over No. 13 Nick Sachive from Cornell back in December.
