NEW YORK - After opening the season at the ITA Kick-Off
Weekend in Georgia last weekend, the No. 70 Columbia women's tennis team will
open its home slate Sunday, Feb. 3 against the visiting Panthers from Florida
International. First serve at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center is set for 12 p.m.
Columbia will be looking to get in the win column Sunday,
after dropping a pair of tough matches to ranked opponents last week. The Lions
opened the season with a 4-1 loss to No. 6 Georgia, before being edged by No.
42 Oklahoma State, 4-3, the following day.
First-year Kanika Vaidya came away with two singles
victories in her first two duals with the Lions. No. 81 Bianca Sanon and
Crystal Leung also added singles wins against Oklahoma State.
FIU will also enter Sunday's match 0-2 following a 6-1 loss
at No. 24 Yale Friday evening. Carlotta Orlando captured the only point for the
Panthers in the No. 3 singles match with a 7-5, 6-0 win over Hanna Yu. Rita
Maisak and Aleksand Trifunovic notched an upset win in the No. 1 doubles match
over No. 49 Yu and Amber Li.
Sunday's match against FIU will be the final tune-up for
Columbia before hosting the ECAC Team Championships from Feb. 8-10.
