ITHACA, N.Y. - The 2013 ECAC Indoor Tennis Championship
finals featured a showdown of two ranked Ivy League rivals in No. 42 Columbia
and No. 73 Cornell Sunday afternoon. After a weekend of tough competition, the
host Big Red was able to defend its home court and defeat the Lions, 4-0.
The Big Red took two of three in doubles to take the lead
early, 1-0. No. 20 Ashok Narayana and Max Schnur recorded Columbia's only win, downing Venkrat Iyer and Alex Sidney, 8-4, in the top doubles match.
In singles action, Cornell posted three straight-set wins in the
No. 2-4 matches to clinch to tournament.
In the matches that did not finish, Winston Lin and
Nathaniel Gery were tied at one set apiece in the No. 1 and matches,
respectively. Max Schnur was leading the No. 5 match, 1-0, and ahead in the
second set, 5-4, when play was halted.
Columbia will next be in action at the Dick Savitt Tennis
Center on February 23 when it hosts Binghamton in a 2 p.m. matchup.
