to cut the deficit to just one, but Bystol held off his late attempts at a
takedown and scored three points for the Lions.
The next two bouts went down similarly to the first couple,
as Harvard went up 6-3 with a win in the 141-pound bout, but Columbia responding
to tie the match in the 149-pound bout.
No. 5 Steve Santos picked up his 21st win of the season,
defeating Todd Preston, 1-0. Preston spent most of the first two periods
evading Santos' advances with the lone point coming on the Columbia

third Preston began to engage Santos, but it was too late, as Santos showed his

period tied 2-2, but Rebling took the lead with a strong reversal at the start
of the third. Rebling continued to maintain an advantage through the remainder
of the period for the win.
The momentum would shift though in favor of the Crimson in
the 197-pound bout as James Fox posted a major decision to close the Lions'
lead to two, 15-13, setting the stage for a deciding bout at heavyweight.
Columbia's Chris Manna held his own well against the larger
Nicholas Gajdzik, but the Harvard freshman recorded full riding time in the
entire second period and then posted an escape to start the third for the 2-0
decision. The win gave Harvard the narrow victory, 16-15.
