NEW YORK - The Columbia track & field team is back in
action this weekend participating in several meets on the east coast. The program will hosts the Columbia Final
Qualifier Meet at The Armory on Friday, March 1 and Saturday March, 2. Several
Lions will head to the Virginia Tech Final Qualifier in Blacksburg, Va. and
others will compete in the ECAC Indoor Track & Field Championships at
Boston University.
The Columbia Final Qualifier will host 21 teams on Friday
and Saturday at the Armory. Among the college teams entered are Boston College,
Columbia, Georgetown, Maryland, N.C. State, Princeton, Providence, Richmond,
Syracuse, UConn, Villanova and West Virginia.

On Friday night, the men's 5000-meter race will feature Lopez
Lomong (who won the Wanamaker Mile at the recent Millrose Games), Evan Jager
(an Olympic steeplechaser), Andrew Bumbalough, Matt Tegenkamp, Chris Derrick,
Garrett Heath and Travis Mahoney with Dan Huling serving as a pacer.
In addition to the runners from the Oregon Track Club, the
meet will also feature elite athletes from Central Park Track Club and the
NJ/NY Track Club.

Will Race The 5000 This Friday at The Armory
Talented jumpers Uju Ofoche, Nadia Eke and QueenDenise Okeke
, will travel to the Virginia Tech Final Qualifier on Saturday, looking to post
an NCAA qualifying mark.
Okeke's leap of 12.87m in the triple jump currently ranks 20th
overall and Eke's leap of 12.84m ranks 21st in the triple jump.
Ofoche also stands 44th in the long jump with a leap of 6.09m. The
nation's top 16 marks are selected for the NCAA Championships that will take
place next weekend on March 8.
SEE VA TECH FOR FINAL QUALIFIER SCHEDULE
Throwers Duncan Dickerson, Jared Baum, Joanna Kornois and
Nnenna Okwra will represent the Lions at this year's ECAC Championships in
Boston, Mass. Marvellous Iheukwumere will compete in the 60m and 200 runs and Iris Chijoke will run in the 60m hurdles. The meet will be held at Boston University's Indoor Track Center
on Saturday, March 2 through Sunday, March 3.
