BOX SCORE

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Tyler Simpson posted 26 points as the Columbia women's basketball completed a season sweep of Brown in a 58-55 thriller Saturday night.

The Lions took advantage of the charity stripe as Columbia (4-21, 2-9) shot a season-high 84 percent (21-of-25) from the line while limiting the Bears to 50 percent (5-of-10).

Columbia also has a strong shooting effort from the floor at 45.9 percent (17-of-37) and held Brown (9-17, 3-9) to 37.9 percent (22-of-58).

Simpson's 26 points tied a career high as the senior went 9-of-12 from the field and 8-of-10 from the line. She was joined in double figures by Caitlin Unsworth and Taylor Ball, who both scored 10 points apiece. Ball also dished out five assists on the night, while Courtney Bradford pulled down a team-best seven rebounds. Overall, the Lions held a 36-28 rebound advantage over the Bears.

Brown was led by Sheila Dixon's 20-point night, while Lauren Clarke chipped in with another 16.

It was a hard-fought fight from beginning to end as the lead changed nine different times.

A 7-0 run early in the first half put Lions ahead, 13-7, but Brown responded with back-to-back threes and an old-fashioned three-point play to take over 16-10 with 10:18 to go.

Unsworth, who knocked down a trio of three-pointers on the night, drained her first at the 7:49 mark to put Columbia back in front. Bailey Ott hit two free throws to extend the lead, but Dixon duplicated the effort for Brown with two of her own.

Less than 30 seconds later, Ott converted yet another pair of shots from the charity stripe, but Brown quickly answered with a Clarke three-pointer to knot the score at 24-all. The half remained tight over the final minutes. With the score tied at 27-27 and a minute to go, Brown put in two consecutive layups to take a 31-27 halftime lead.

Columbia wasted little time in hitting back-to-back baskets in the second half to even the score, 31-all. The Bears battled back with a 7-0 run to regain the lead, which lasted for nearly 13 minutes. But the Lions rallied with huge defensive stops to slowly chip away at the lead.

Unsworth kicked off a 9-0 drive with another basket from beyond the arc, and with 4:24 remaining, Simpson drained both ends of a one-and-one opportunity to put Columbia in front.

Brown came within two points with 22 seconds on the clock as Sophie Beutel made the first of two attempts from the line and the Bears grabbed the offensive rebound. With eight seconds to go, Dixon misfired a jumper attempt, and Unsworth grabbed the rebound for Columbia and was fouled as Brown reached their limit. She converted one shot from the foul line with six seconds to go, extending Columbia's lead to 58-55. Brown attempted a final shot with one second on the clock but it missed the mark as the Lions pulled away with the victory.
