NEW YORK - For the second straight season, the Columbia
women's lacrosse team will host a Big East team at Robert K. Kraft Field on Wednesday,
March 13 at 7 pm. The Lions will matchup against Villanova for the first time
in program history and look to improve on a 1-3 start this season.
LAST TIME OUT
On last Saturday, the Lions played its second Ivy League
game of the season against Cornell. Despite a 14-7 loss to the Big Red, Columbia's
Paige Cuscovitch scored a team-high three goals for her third hat trick of the
season. The Lions knew they had a big task ahead against undefeated Cornell and
displayed a refreshing toughness on the field.
"For anybody who saw the first half, you saw the new
Columbia in terms of our fight and our ability to hold on to the ball, "
said Columbia Head Coach of Lacrosse Liz Kittleman Jackson.
WRITING THE RECORD BOOKS
With seven points on Saturday, Feb.23 in a win over Mount
St. Mary's, Kacie Johnson surpassed Holly Glynn's ('09CC) mark of 186 points to
become the all-time points leader in program history. She has tallied 198
career points to date after tallying two points against Cornell in her last outing.
ON A ROLL
Cuscovitch has put together a string of solid performances
through the first four games of the season. Her season total of 11 goals
includes three hat tricks in contests against Mount St. Mary's, Lafayette and
Cornell. The junior has earned an Ivy League weekly honor roll selection two
out of the three weeks the awards have been released.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Villanova posts a 2-3 record on the year. The Wildcats share
a win over Mount St. Mary's with the Columbia after a 16-7 win in the teams'
last outing. Sophomore Jessica
Mucci is Wildcats top playmaker with 18 points on three goals and 15 assists.
